Education has no boundaries-Three teachers from America and France gave lectures at SMU

From February to April, three renowned teachers from America and France arrived the Merchant Marine College of SMU and gave lessons to the undergraduate students from the Merchant Marine College.

In the late February, Captain John Belle from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, taught Modern Cargo and Containerization to the students of the Third International Class. He also delivered excellent lectures about maritime affairs to the freshmen and sophomores from the Merchant Marine College. Through the lectures, our students not only got a deeper understanding about seamen’s life and work, but also improved their English skills. Captain John Belle also had a discussion on discipline building with teachers from the Merchant Marine College.

From the early March to the early April, Prof. Alexander F. Hickethier, Vice President of the Maritime College of San Diego, USA paid a fourth visit to SMU. He taught Standard Maritime Communication Phrases (SMCP) and Marine English to the sophomores majoring in shipping technology. Prof. Alexander F. Hickethier also delivered several lectures for the freshmen from the Merchant Marine College.

From the mid March to the mid April, the French Prof. Alain Brillault, Honorary Vice Chair of IMLA came to SMU for the first time. He taught Ship Structure and Control and Marine Engine and Marine English to the sophomores majoring in Navigation and Marine Engineering.

Before they left, they all said that they were very impressed by the development of Chinese shipping education and hoped that they could come to SMU again in the near future.
